#CryEaglesCry: Best (worst) reactions from the Birds’ season-sinking loss

If they’d pulled out a win over Miami…ah forget it.

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys

Update 7:45 p.m.: The petition to make the team walk home has over 5,000 signatures.

The Eagles were 5-6 when they met the Dolphins for a Week 13 standoff on Sunday.

Even with no Nick Foles around to step in and play savior to Carson Wentz’s struggles connecting with a depleted receiving line, there was still hope. The rest of the NFC East was such a mess that with a win, the Birds could tie Dallas at the top of the division and hold onto their playoff chances.

It didn’t happen.

Despite Miami’s 2-9 losing record coming in, journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzgerald — who’d faced off against the Eagles with seven different teams over the years — pulled out the stops and launched the Dolphins to a 37-31 victory.

Among Philadelphia fans, there was plenty of blame to spread around. The late collapse, which came after Philly held a 14-point lead in the third quarter, even spawned a new hashtag: #CryEaglesCry.

Here’s some of the best (worst?) reactions on social media.

Throwback to Silver Linings Playbook. When art imitates life imitates art.

Time for some serious discipline.

Bicycles is generous — nearly 500 more than 5,000 people have signed a petition saying Eagles players deserve to WALK home from Florida.

Was that one Super Bowl win all we get?

Sports blogs did not hold back.

There were lots of Philadelphians in the Miami stands, unfortunately for them.

Though in Philly, people will always find an opportunity to shower down the boos.

There’s always the Sixers! Oh right, and the Flyers.

But basically, it was all trash.
